home sweet home

ky and i took a trip to hobby lobby and i instantly fell in love with this little cardboard house. all the possibilities! so i brought it home with me and i started creating. it's still a work in progress...

it was a clean canvas and i could do anything my heart desired. i also bought some scrapbook paper and embellishments, added it to the lovely home and voila! what a pretty house. i would love to live here, wouldn't you?

the bird that sits on top is big, but i like that it adds a bit of whimsy.

so there is my little house. i sit her on my fireplace mantle and now my little family (i painted a while back) has a lovely little home.

my mother's love

my mom has always been a thoughtful woman. when i was little i can remember her having to run errands and sometimes she would bring me back a surprise and i would be so excited because anything she got for me i would love...fast forward a few years and she hasn't changed all that much.

i think of myself as a thoughtful person and i have to thank my mama for that. i hope that i pass some of my mama to my own children.

another thing that i get from my mother is crafting, put us in a room together with a glue gun and scrap paper and we'd probably build a town. ha! yes, we are very creative. i think she's a lot better than i am so anything she makes, i study each detail wondering, how did she get that so perfectly? oh, i see now...

every christmas my mother sends a box filled with goodies, from cookies to shirts. this christmas she did the same and every present she wrapped was so beautifully done. each roll of wrapping paper perfectly matching the embellishment carefully placed on top. she takes the time to do these things with love. that's just one of the many things i love about my mother.

she also filled these wooden containers with cookies, there were about four of them altogether. she knew that i couldn't help myself, but try a little mixed media painting on them. i totally know why she sent them. she was so right :)
this is what one of them looked like before:

here's are a few shots of the still-working-on-it-after:

thanks so much, mama. you know exactly what i like. so happy to share a creative soul with you...

whimsical bedroom

i have to admit. i'm addicted to decorating my daughter's room. after having two boys, i was pregnant with a little girl and you couldn't tell me anything! don't get me wrong, i liked decorating my sons' rooms, but i'm a female. a very girly female. so as you can imagine, i would mostly put things in there that were either car or super man cape related. then here comes my little girl...

i knew that right off the bat i didn't want a "pink, sweet room", not that there's anything wrong with pink/sweet, but i wanted something more vibrant. so, when people would ask what they could get the baby, i would tell them that i wanted something handmade. made with love.
it could be a blanket, drawing..whatever. and, that's what she (baby girl) got. her room is filled with lots of love, i have to say. mostly everything in there is made by me or painted/redone from thrift store.

the photo above is of a keepsake box that i handpainted for her. don't you just love a pretty keepsake box? makes you want to find things to put in there. well, since she has so many hair thingies (i call it), we keep most of the keepsake boxes full. ahh..i love my children. i love my boys and i love having my little girl. but, it's just a little more of a good time with what us girls appreciate..

learn how to make recycled fairy wings

my awesome blog friend, harmony, was just telling me about creating some wings for my new dress form and i didn't know how. funny how things work because i found this video here and i thought "hmm..i can do that". oh, by the way- harmony is a very talented arstist and you can find her here. we have so many things in common like wearing skirts over jeans and stuff. she's a total creative geek like me and she makes me happy. you have to meet her. i want to try making these wings for my dress form..or i can just put them on and walk around the house like that because i can :) happy creating!

pretty picture how-to

this painting was so much for me. i've made one for my daughter, niece and friend's daughter. it's pretty easy to do. all you need is some acrylic paint, ribbon, yarn, glue gun and scrap fabric (or anything scrappy will do, i'm not picky).

i started off by lightly drawing the girl's face ,hairline and torso, then you want to paint the face and shirt. i added some reddish lips and pretty eyelashes with the acrylic paint.

i painted the shirt (do whatever color pleases you) and added the pretty ribbon across the shirt. i let that dry completely.

starting at the top of the head i started hot glueing the yarn (trying to in a certain direction that the hair would lay) all the way down to the ear area and the rest i let hang. try to glue each strand side by side until you are satisfied with the shape of the head.

when that is completed, i used scraps of fabric and cut out a flower shape and glued it to her hair.
voila!

my daughter loves this painting because it's wall decor and she loves when i take it down and she can play with the hair. you can also have a place to keep hair clips and all that good stuff.

have fun!

home sweet home

I think this little "home" is one of the most popular items in Kyree's room. A lot of people ask me about it and if you're interested in making your own here is a simple how-to. As many people know, I love dollhouses, but I wanted to start her off with something simple. I found everything I needed at Michael's. Here is a list of what to get.
~cute "dollhouse" (originally a wooden cd holder) -$5.99 or so.
~acrylic paint -.89 cents
~wood glue-no more than $2.99
~ribbon (about 4 diffrent kinds)- on sale, .99 cents each
~wooden trees and flowers to glue on the house-25 cents each
~hot glue gun-hope you have one already!
I sanded the house a little bit just to have a smoother surface to paint, plus it allows paint to stick better. Start by painting the house, paint your little heart out-whatever color makes you happy, just make sure to make it interesting. When the paint in dry, I started glueing the ribbon on the roof of the house sort of overlapping them with hot glue gun. I also added some ribbon to the house itself. I used the wood glue to add on the tree and flowers to the windows. As you go along you may want to add more interest and your touch to it. It is a lot of fun to do, and best of all- EASY. If your child is old enough, include them in this! Let your imagination go wild. I loved doing this so much that I'm gonna do some more and maybe give them as gifts. Happy crafting!
